Luxury Landscape Renovation Project
This project involved the complete transformation of the outdoor areas surrounding a prestigious residence valued at approximately $5 million. Although the home featured striking contemporary architecture, the existing landscaping had become tired, sparse and disconnected from the quality of the property.
The renovation focused on improving pedestrian access, resolving the sloping site, introducing a more refined planting palette and creating attractive garden views from the house and swimming pool.

Project Highlights
Safer Pedestrian Access on a Steep Site
Originally, the steep driveway also served as the main pedestrian entrance, making access inconvenient and uncomfortable for residents and visitors.
To create a safer and more welcoming entry, we:
- Modified the existing front fence and installed a dedicated pedestrian gate
- Constructed a wide composite decking staircase
- Integrated the staircase into the existing retaining levels
- Added planting and decorative gravel to soften the transition between the lower garden and street level
The new entrance separates pedestrian movement from vehicle access and creates a much stronger sense of arrival.
A Refined Planting Palette for a Prestige Residence
The original retaining-wall garden contained only a small number of sparsely planted Japanese box shrubs. The planting lacked colour, structure and visual impact and did not reflect the value or architectural character of the residence.
We replaced it with a layered, premium planting scheme centred around white-flowering Viburnum ‘Snowball’. White flowers were used throughout the garden as the dominant theme, complemented by purple, deep red and warm orange tones.
The planting palette included:
- Viburnum ‘Snowball’
- Burgundy feature trees
- Pincushion proteas
- Flowering groundcovers
- Ornamental grasses
- Structured evergreen shrubs
- Cascading foliage plants
The result is a sophisticated garden with seasonal colour, varied texture and a much stronger relationship to the home.
Bamboo Garden Against the White Feature Wall
The original rear garden consisted mainly of lawn and a large blank white boundary wall, creating a stark and unfinished appearance.
A layered bamboo screen was introduced to soften the wall and add height, movement and natural texture. As the bamboo moves gently in the wind, it creates changing shadows across the white surface and gives the garden a calmer, more established atmosphere.
The planting retains the generous lawn area while transforming the previously plain boundary into a living garden backdrop.
Resort-Style Poolside Screening
The bamboo planting beside the swimming pool became one of the strongest features of the completed landscape.
A dense row of bamboo now:
- Creates an attractive green backdrop to the pool
- Produces beautiful reflections on the water
- Adds movement and a relaxed resort-like atmosphere
- Screens views of the neighbouring property
- Improves privacy without introducing a heavy built structure
The contrast between the turquoise pool, pale paving, dark fencing and soft bamboo foliage gives the area a clean and contemporary resort feel.
